Grand Gesture - Call to Artists
DMJStudio and Detroit Public Library are partnering again to bring you Grand Gesture 2026
The Detroit Public Library and DMJStudio invites artists to submit work for The Grand Gesture 2026, a group exhibition celebrating the power of large-scale art. We are seeking paintings, photographs, and mixed media works that are physically impressive—at least 40 + inches on one side—and visually dynamic. (Example sizes 40 × 40, 40 × 60, 40 × 36, 60 × 80, or larger).
Bold color, striking composition, or immersive detail, submissions should transform the space it occupies. Diptychs, triptychs, and multi-panel works are welcome, as long as the total configuration meets the size requirement.
Who Should Apply:
Artists living or working in Detroit and the surrounding region. Emerging and established artists are welcome. No submission fee.
Submission Deadline: Monday, August 31
Notification: Tuesday, September 8
Drop-off Dates: Thursday, September 24 (10am–6pm) and Friday, September 25 (10am–6pm) at Detroit Public Library, Main Library 5201 Woodward)
Exhibition Dates: September 28 - December 30, 2026
To Submit:
- Up to 2 images of large-scale works (JPEG or PNG, 2MB max per file)
- Title, dimensions, medium, and year created for each work
- Artist statement (no more than 200 words)
- Contact information (name, phone, email, website or IG)
- Work must be ready to hang on a picture rail hanging system and hanging rods
Selected artists will be responsible for delivering and picking up their work. The Detroit Public Library does not take a commission on sales. No sales will be conducted on site, but will be accessible online via dmjstudio.com
